Since the enactment of the Private University Act in 1992, over 50 private universities have been granted permission to operate in the country. Most of these universities are in their infancies and are striving to improve the total quality of education and management of their respective institution.
Similarly, a greater number of colleges and other seats of higher learning under the National University and other public universities have been pro-active in introducing new programmes, particularly in business and ICT, and improving on overall quality of teaching and management.
In the primary and secondary education sectors the need for qualitative improvement is even more important as these sub-sectors determine the quality of inputs in the higher education. This is true for mass education as well as for English medium schools.
