The strategic guidelines are devised by an Executive Committee (EC) consisting of members representing the academic, management and other professionals. The EC is the main policy making body of the Alliance which comprises among others, a President, a Secretary and a Treasurer. It is assisted by a number of Sectoral Skill Councils (SSCs) and National Expert Councils (NECs). At the international level U&I has a dedicated board of advisors encompassing a wide range of expertise.

The SSCs are mainly concerned with skill development and policy formulation for a sub-sector of an industry. At present, U&I is working on the following SSCs:
